Originally from Colombia, classical guitarist Carlos Bedoya obtained B.M. degrees in Music Education and Music Performance from Rowan University, and a M.M. degree in performance from the Schwob School of Music where he was the graduate assistant of famed pedagogue Dr. Andrew Zohn. Bedoya is currently pursuing a D.M degree at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University as an Associate Instructor and studying under Professor Petar Jankovic. Some of his previous teachers include Sergio Assad, Grammy Award winner Jason Vieaux, Joseph and Kathleen Mayes, and composer Edward Nelson.
His most recent national and international accolades include: Appalachian State Guitar Competition (2nd, 2022), University of Memphis International Guitar Competition (2nd, ‘22), Sinaloa International Guitar Festival and Competition (2nd, ‘22), Florida State University Guitar Competition (1st Prize, 2021), Southern Guitar Festival (3rd, ‘21), Northern Lights Music Festival Concerto Competition (winner, ’21) Sarajevo International Guitar Festival (3rd, ‘21), Schwob School of Music concerto competition (winner, ‘21), Philadelphia Classical Guitar Competition (2nd, ‘21), Hong Kong IFA Guitar Competition (3rd, ’20), and National Federation of Music Clubs (1st, ‘20). Some of his most significant concert appearances include performances for the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society, Antioquia Music Fest, the International Clarinet Association, the Cape Classical Artist concert series, Uniquindio Guit-Art festival in Colombia, Capilla Santa Clara at the Cartagena Music Festival, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as a grand winner of the NLPA competition.
In addition, he has appeared as soloist with the Schwob Philharmonic Orchestra, the Northern Lights Music Festival Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, and the Rowan University Orchestra as winner of their concerto competitions. Besides having an avid enthusiasm for singing and conducting, Bedoya is also an occasional composer and arranger and is currently a Yamaha classical guitar ambassador.
